It would be
nice if we lived in a world where our bosses judged us entirely by the quality
and quantity of our work. However, the reality is that personal impressions are
very important.
In the
workplace, impressing your boss can often make the difference between
maintaining your position and getting a promotion or getting higher increment. In a less economy, it can
even be the deciding factor between keeping your job and getting fired.
Every job is different, but most bosses seek the same set of basic characteristics in their employees.
1. Be Honest.
Every job is different, but most bosses seek the same set of basic characteristics in their employees.
1. Be Honest.
Lying never helps anyone grow. OK, so it might, but it's not fair. Be honest about your efforts, workload, skills, and needs. Your boss will appreciate your frankness. Who knows, he may be able to help you.
It's crucial to speak up for yourself, but don't exclude yourself from your department or unit. Work with your co-workers to meet your common goal.
3. Take Initiative.
If a process or project is broken or need to be developed, fix it! Or talk to someone who can. If you don't, who will?
4. Be Resourceful.
Whether you are truly qualified or not, you got the job because someone spotted the right skills in you. Prove them right. Put your past experiences, insight, and education to use daily, and be resourceful.
5. Dress Well.
It is probably subconscious. Observing a higher dress code will stand out as an obvious attempt at flattery. For example, if no one else wears a tie, then you shouldn’t. If they do, then wear a nice, clean one.
Because, "Being well-dressed is a beautiful form of Politeness." - Coco Chanel
6. Be Punctual. Stay Late.
This has always been the key to impress a boss who is concerned with your inputs. Since it is so hard to predict when traffic will be bad, sometimes the only way to ensure you are always on time is to arrive a bit early. Arriving before your boss will give them an impressive notion of your work ethic.
Don’t leave the office before your bosses leave. OK, Sorry.... but staying up at the work after working hours will be definitely help you. Even though this can be
extremely inconvenient at times, it shows them that you are working longer
hours than they are, and it exudes a sense of respect.
These tips might help you to create a healthiest environment at your workplace.
